St. David’s

Saturday, 26/11/2011

I started quite early this morning. From Abergavenny to St. David’s it’s more than two hours to drive.  It’s raining, this isn’t the forecasted weather! But when I reach the coast near New Gale, the rain has stopped, although it’s not becoming brighter.

St.  David’s is the smallest city of Great Britain because it has a cathedral. In the NT shop in St. David’s I grab some walking leaflets and continue to Whitesands Bay, where I park my car. I put on my water proofs and start walking.

At first the path follows the coast line and when I turn around I’ll see Whitesands Bay.

Then I leave the coast path behind and turn inland to cross over the peninsula. When I arrive at the coast path again, I turn backwards to walk back to Whitesands Bay, this time on the coast path around St. David’s Head.

The wind is so strong, that I don’t take any risk and I stay away from the cliff’s edge.

Back to the car, I’ll have to wash my glasses, they are covered in salt. Then I go back to St. David’s and have a look at the cathedral.

After my visit to the cathedrals I went back to the coast to walk from Porth Clais towards Treginnis Peninsula, but after half an hour I decided to turn around, my glasses where covered in rain and salt and I couldn’t see the path anymore.

On my way back to St. David’s I passed the St. Justininan Lifeboat Station. In January we passed here on our first walk of 2011, but the weather was definitly better in January ;-) .

Back to St. David’s I went to see my room in Old Cross Hotel. The interieur originates in the seventies, but it’s absolutely clean. Later that evening I have fish & chips in “The Farmers Arms” and went back to the hotel to watch “The Killing”.
